Overview – Managing Misconduct
This one-day workshop is designed to develop managers’ knowledge and skills in managing misconduct and behavioural issues effectively and with increased confidence in their ‘right to manage’. We will explore setting standards and giving feedback informally, as well as the steps needed to manage a disciplinary issue via the formal procedure.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop delegates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legal framework for managing misconduct at work
- Show an understanding of the steps needed to set standards of behaviour through informal discussions that are effective and clear
- Demonstrate an understanding of steps to manage a formal process and keep it on track, including:
- When and how to suspend
- The key steps in the disciplinary process
- Making disciplinary decisions that are legally compliant and fair
- Selecting an appropriate sanction as the outcome of a disciplinary hearing
- Show an understanding of the role of an appeal in achieving a fair and reasonable outcome
- Describe ways of managing the team relationship once a disciplinary process is complete
